The Alaska Longline Fishermens Association (ALFA) hereby expresses its support and endorsement for the Alaska Cruise Ship Ballot Initiative (03CTAX) scheduled for the Alaska statewide primary ballot in August 2006.
The ability of ALFA members to harvest and successfully market wild Alaska seafood directly depends upon the health and purity of Alaskas waters. We believe the cruise ship industry should be required to meet and adequately document compliance with Alaska Water Quality Standards.
We further believe it is in the best interest of Alaska to assess a fair level of taxation on the cruise industry to help support the infrastructure and public facilities utilized by the industry.
For these reasons ALFA supports the Cruise Ship Ballot Initiative.
