Responsible Cruising in Alaska
Welcome to the Responsible Cruising in Alaska (RCA) website!
Responsible Cruising in Alaska (RCA) is an Alaska-based organization who believe
the cruise industry shouldn't pollute public waters and should pay taxes to offset their impacts
on local communities.
Hello Ballot Measure 2 Supporters!
You have probably been receiving one glossy mailing piece after another from the cruise industry in your mailboxes - the last two week push before the primary election is on! Without having millions to spend, here's how you can help ALASKANS win this in the voting booth:
VOTE on August 22nd!
Email or call everyone you know and urge them to vote YES on ballot measure 2. Only about 1/3 of those who typically vote in any general election EVER vote in a primary. GET OUT AND VOTE!
Talk to others - this measure will truly give Alaskans the power to regulate the cruise industry in Alaska. We need this to pass - for a brighter future for ALL Alaskans, not just those in the tourism industry. Send your friends and family to www.responsiblecruising.org for information and documents to share with others, listen to radio ads and even see our bus signs!
Send a letter to the editor in your community or regional newspaper (see statewide list below).
Call in to your local radio station and urge others to vote YES on ballot measure 2!
Contribute any amount you can online. Your $25 contribution could help buy a couple of radio ads!
Sign Wave on Tuesday, August 22nd - you may just remind someone to vote!
For the past five years we have been publishing information on the industry's practices and performance, with the goal of protecting Alaska's water quality and maritime infrastructure. RCA was born in the aftermath of the Royal Caribbean felony convictions in 1999. The investigation and subsequent convictions brought to light the fact that virtually every major cruise line has been convicted in the past decade on multiple counts and on multiple occasions for purposefully dumping toxic wastes into U.S. waters and falsifying pollution control documents to our government.
Our current focus is the passage of our Cruise Ship Ballot Initiative (CSBI,) scheduled for a statewide vote in Alaska on the August 2006 primary ballot. The CSBI will significantly improve protections for Alaska's waters, and establish a fair taxation policy to help Alaska's cities and towns maintain their ports for years to come.
The full text of the CSBI and a 1-page summary are posted on our Resources page. We will also regularly post cruise ship-related statutes, articles, breaking news, editorials and op-eds, photos and cartoons. But we can't cover it all - please visit the other links provided for all the information you won't find on the cruise industry websites. Go to Resources....
Finally, there are two things you can do to help us:
Share your stories and observations. The Coast Guard and our state enforcement agencies cannot possibly see or hear everything that occurs on our waters. If you have witnessed what you believe was an illegal dumping of solid or liquid pollutants, especially if you have video film or photos, contact the Coast Guard (1-800-424-8802) or send us an email at RCA and we will forward the information to the proper authorities.
We need your financial support. The multi-billion dollar cruise industry is spending a fortune to defeat the CSBI. Obviously we cannot possibly match their money, but with your help we can get the word out and pass this law. People are watching all over the world to see if we can take back control of our waters - they know if we can do it in Alaska, so can they. 100% of your donations will be dedicated to this effort. Please use the Paypal link to make a donation.
Thanks for viewing our site, and may you and your kids have CLEAN WATER FOREVER!
